Richard Holden says journalists at his seminars often don't find
the problems in his examples of poorly presented numbers from
newspapers. “I'm surprised with professional newspaper people, how
frequently it goes right over their head,” he tells Carl Bialik.

embedded in the culture of the profession, he says. “Journalists always
prided themselves on knowing so little about math.”
